24.12.30-- Antique Veramin Torba Face c 1900

$0.00

SIZE
approx 18 × 40”

DESCRIPTION
Two red guls with white star border. Plush, colorful, and finely woven textile. Interest in tribal textiles eventually compelled JD to seek things other than Baluch. Veramin pieces are defined less by ethnography than region. Many people identify these narrow piled pieces as “mafresh” panels. An alternative opinion is that mafreshes were mainly comprised of flat woven components; these objects were possibly bag faces.

Ex James Douglas personal collection. Mr. Douglas was a scholar and aficionado of Mideast tribal weaving who’s research and publications focused on antique textiles of Persia, Afghanistan, and Baluchistan.

CONDITION
Pile is plush and minty. Some attrition around sides and ends
