DESCRIPTION
Ref: Lilian Carlisle's "Shelburne Museum Bandboxes pp. 156-157. The main design is called "The Prominade: a couple out for an afternoon prominade while making the 'Grand Tour' have come across two figures in Oriental or Turkish dress sitting beside a stone monument."

Note the fashionable circa 1835 sash-waisted full-skirted/full-sleaved dress. According to Carlisle this design was inspired by a circa 1830 edition of the French fashion publication "La Petit Decor." As with the Shelburne example this one has a blue ground-- tho attenuated because the design is well occupied.

The lid design is called "Castles in Spain" with variations well illustrated in Carlisle pp. 152-153.

The interior newspaper is "Moore's Rural New Yorker."

Here we have a very interesting example of a rare and hard to find bandbox.

Acquired from an old DC estate collection that dates back to the 1960s

CONDITION
Well traveled but sturdy; various repairs and flaws are evident in the photos. 180 year old wallpaper that traveled on stage coaches. Its a miracle these things survive in any condition. Please examine the photos carefully. The photos tell the story.
