Exceptional Large American Burl Bowl 18th cent

$0.00

SIZE
16 3/4 inches diameter x 6 1/2 inches tall

DESCRIPTION
Exceptional large American Ash Burl. Probably Pennsylvania. Crisply turned detail in rim and foot. Most burl bowls are shallow. This one is proportionally deep (alludes to early manufacture). Dramatic figuring is tight, compact, and evenly distributed throughout the bowl. A genuinely magnificent piece of wood. Lovely color and patina. Also, fine pristine dry surface-- unmuddled by finish goo as with 98% of these things. This is a first-rate piece of Americana that has been in an exceptional PA collection for the past 50 years.

CONDITION
Two fine tight fissure/hairlines. (See photo 2-- at 10:00 and 1:00 O'Clock). Solid, sturdy and relatively innocuous. Various other knotty little imperfections that are characteristic of this wood. Aside from this, excellent.
