SIZE
19 x 31"

DESCRIPTION
Exceptionally finely woven piece. The so-called "two-headed bird" motif is associated with Shasavan and Kurd tribes (ref: Housego, Tribal rugs pp 63). The Douglas piece has a similar feel to pp 53 in Wertime, Sumak Bags who attribute it to Khamseh, Northwest Persia. I would also suggest Veramin area which like Khamseh also harbored Shasavan enclaves through the 19th century.

Ex personal collection of the late James Douglas, tribal textile scholar and dilettante who especially revered Veramin and Balouch textiles Ref: Douglas, J. 2014 Inclusively Baluch: From the Core to the Periphery of the Baluch Aesthetic.
