418-1-- Antique Shahsavan Khorgin Chanta Bags 19th cent

$0.00

SIZE
range in size from small to Tiny

DESCRIPTION
Made by Shahsavan tribesman South Caucasus. Most are Khorgins (double bags). All are Chanta size (small). All are Soumak weave.  Some thought that they are children's bags. But I think they are simply small nomadic utility saddle bags.   Those with slits were probably hung on a saddle pommel. These are ethnographic pieces collected by the late Ron Hort. Honest and well used. Most are natural dyes. Age range from late 19th to early 20th cent. Call me to check on availability and get additional photos.
