DESCRIPTION
Ref: Lisa Minardi (“Drawn with Spirit, 2015: pp 328). Daniel Peterman, York County was one of the last of the hand-drawn fraktur artists. This one is signed: “Made by Daniel Peterman, Shrewsbury Township (York County). The depiction of two women in puffy dresses is a common convention in Peterman fraktures. This one is a bit unusual in identifying both ladies as Sally (left) and Leah (right). My archaic German script is rusty but I think the parents are identified as Peter Schmied and Coffilina Borrner, July 14, 1855 in Codorus Township, York County PA. The child was named Elijaberly. Exceptional original ocher grain painted frame with thin wavy glass, and chamferred backboard. Ex. Ohio collection.
CONDITION
Foxing and toning. There is a seam that had paper damage in the center which occurred because the original double backboards had a gap in the center via cross grain shrinkage. Repaired with paper fortification to the back and an acid-free partition between the wood and paper.
