Flamboyant signature reverse canvas. Possibly painted during early New York City Period (c., 1805-6). Note 1814 Oxford Gazette article. This is one of only two known examples by this early American folk art portrait painter who is noted in Groce and Wallace 1957 pp. 329

Period frame and stretcher probably not original; paintwork good.
