Large Lavish American Fruit/Compote Theorem c. 1840

$0.00

SIZE
16 x 20" (sight); 18 1/2 x 22 1/2" (including frame)

DESCRIPTION
One of the most elaborate and sumptuous theorems I've ever seen. Amazing detail using both stencil and freehand. Note the use of metallic gold trim on the compote.  Reminiscent of Emma Cady. Fine Pd American frame with original wavy glass and pine back board. I pulled it out of the frame to look it over. No signature. Photo 1 shows it with glass off.

CONDITION
Professionally restored and conserved in 1979 by Douglas Kenyon, former conservator w/ The Art Institute of Chicago. As stated I examined it out of the frame. There was some foxing and a few restored interior cracks in the original foundation. Credit years of contact w/ a pine back board. The original foundation was deacidified and relined with a thin modern acid-free foundation. The interior rabbit of the frame was matted to keep the paint surface off the glass. This Kenyon guy knew what he was doing and someone paid a small fortune to have this done right. Please examine the photos carefully. The photos tell the story.
