DESCRIPTION
Watercolor on paper. Original gilt frame and early black painted paper mounting. Interesting and possibly diagnostic techniques used by artist. Note pin-stippling with gold wash detail on the tassels. Also London embossed seal was intentionally accented with WC wash. Paper is watermarked as well with only reverse of letters “ARD” barely legible. (cf., Harvard?). Rendering and frame are clearly American. I suspect NY, Boston, or Philadelphia where there was access to this sort of art materials. Interesting unidentified American folk art limner. ex Bill Samaha, Ohio.
