Diminutive Signed Queen Ann 4 Light Pewter Chandelier cf., 18th cent
Diminutive Signed Queen Ann 4 Light Pewter Chandelier cf., 18th cent
SIZE
12” tall baluster; 14” diameter
DESCRIPTION
Two touchmarks in each drip pan: small serrated circle around gothic cross; and initials Z*A. Probably Dutch. Candle cups and drip pans are fastened together and tooling marks are visible. Candle arms are removable via octagonal mortices. the octagonal arms were cast in two sections and fixed together with little baluster flanges. As you can see they are removable via octagonal mortices. I'm sure over the years these soft arms were repeatedly bent to keep the candle sockets vertical and this is probably how the two arms were damaged.
This is an interesting and unique lighting device, especially regarding small size. With 7” clearance (radius) this could be wall mounted on a sconce or short crane.
CONDITION
Two of the arms with homespun repairs; albeit inelegant, solid and effective. Please see photos.
