Rare Antique Dutch Brass Compote cf., Late 17th cent

$0.00

SIZE
9 1/2  inches diameter (w/ rim); 5 /12 tall

DESCRIPTION
Interesting piece of early brass ware; I've had this for 20 years. I've never seen another like it aside from Schiffer et al 366C. The Schiffer comp is slightly smaller and different foot-form; tho the rim is the same. I don't know why he called this a chalice rather than what it is-- a footed bowl or compote. I have seen this same sort of light to medium-weight sand-cast and turned brasswork on late 17th century vernacular production Heemskirk-type candlesticks.

CONDITION
Well traveled. Note age crack on rim. Otherwise, very good.
