New York Painted Tinware Tole Trunk

$0.00

SIZE
9 1/2 x 6 x 6 inches

DESCRIPTION

Attributed to Edwin Filley Tin Shop, New York (Martin and Tucker vol 3). Cross hatched cabbage flower and X ends are diagnostic. The painters of these early pieces were essentially borrowing the same motifs used on English pearlwares of the early 19th century. (this is essentially the classic "Leeds rose"). Interesting evolution.

CONDITION
Well used-- the asphaultum has normal honest wear. The paint decoration is worn on the lid but quite good on the front and sides.
