DESCRIPTION
The protruding post in the bottom evinces how the "true" Heemskerk sticks were assembled. (see pic from Michaelis fig 104). Most you see are bunged up over time. It's rare to find one that doesn't have a big glob of lead on the bottom. According to Michaelis the ridged ball knop form was used from the late 1500s up to circa 1650.
