Base is 6 1/2 x 6 1/2”

DESCRIPTION
Schiffer “Brass Book” (pp 292 C) shows one with similar scalloped apron and said to be Spanish origin, 4th quarter, 18th cent. The difference in Spanish vs English is identified by the manner in which candle cup and handle attach to the base. Spanish examples use hand threaded plinths vs English Georgian examples which use nut fasteners. This fine and unique example has a unique configuration of ink wells, two pounce pots, and a candleholder (which is rare on early standishes).

A lavish example with exceptionally fine quality brass work. Ex personal collection of the late Bruce Knight, Springfield Ohio.
