Historic Blue Staffordshire Southern American Scene Coffeepot c. 1830
Historic Blue Staffordshire Southern American Scene Coffeepot c. 1830
SIZE
10 1/2 inches tall including finial
DESCRIPTION
This beautiful deep blue scene is known as "Virginia Church." According to Arman it might be a different angle on another scene known as "at Richmond Virginia." As far as I know there has never been a signed example found. However, it is attributable to early Joseph Heath & Co, Tunstall-- based on the border motifs. Years ago we had a soup tureen. It too had the quaint feature of having several of the cartouches printed upside down. We've seen a Virginia Church teapot as well as small plates. We've never seen this in a lighthouse coffeepot. Its a rare thing.
CONDITION
Lower lip of spout had been detached and reglued. Fairly innocuous-- but not invisible. Aside from this the pot is near mint/perfect.
